Thomas Lee McKeithan II is a native of Washington, DC holding a BA in interdisciplinary studies (Communications, Legal Institutions and Government) from American University and is current pursuing a Masters of Science in Project Management from Walden University. He has been recognized nationally and locally for his commitment to improving outcomes for persons with disabilities.
Thomas’ successes haven’t just been to make his life better, but for those around him as well. Throughout his life, McKeithan has received numerous accolades for the great strides he’s taken in improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. His civic roles have included the following: Member of the Mayor’s Committee On Employment of People with Disabilities for the District of Columbia (1995-2000); Adaptive Technology Consultant for the District of Columbia Vision Program, DC Public Schools (1996-1998); Member of the American University Disability Compliance Project Team (1997-2001); Vice Chairman of University Legal Services, Protection and Advocacy Developmentally Disabled Advisory Council (1997-1998); Chairman of the State Advisory Panel On Special Education for the District of Columbia (1998-2002); Member of the National Council on Disability Youth Advisory Committee (2000-2001), and Vice Chairman (August-December, 2001), and Co-Chair of Part B and Cluster Chair for the DC Early Intervention/DC Public Schools IDEA Continuous Improvement Monitoring Process (2000-2001).
Mr. McKeithan II joined the A11Y Center of Excellence, UXDS, Optum, as an Accessibility SME in December 2015. Prior to joining Optum, Mr. McKeithan II served is several positions at QSSI (Optum Government) (December of 2013 as the Section508 Tester for the EIDM, CMS Project and in June 2014 transitioned to the SQA Solutions Center as Section508 SME where he oversaw the execution of the center’s Accessibility Initiative as well as assisted in develop content for corporate proposals relative to Section508 conformance). Prior to him joining QSSI in December 2013, McKeithan served as Accessibility Program Manager for the National Industries of the Blind (June 2011-September 2013) and Senior Section508 Test Engineer, Section508 Program Office, Department of Veteran Affairs (July 2006-June 2011).
